Hi,
I tried to configure mpd in archlinux (with gnome 3) and pulse audio.
I followed this page : http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/PulseAudio but I have still problem. I cannot play a son. I have all package about pulse-audio installed.
I have this error in /var/log/mpd.log
xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
No protocol specified
Oct 16 00:11 : output: Failed to enable "Sound Card" [pulse]: pa_context_connect() has failed: Connection refused
a part of my /etc/mpd.conf
mixer_type "software"
audio_output {
type "pulse"
name "Sound Card"
}
I can re-create the database (with ncmpc) but not playing son. I think it is a problem of access but mpd is member of audio group...
]# id mpd
uid=45(mpd) gid=45(mpd) groupes=45(mpd),92(audio),100(users)
Idea ?

How do you start mpd, as a system daemon or as user? I've had problems getting pulse to work with a system daemon, but if started as user with a session it works well. I haven't looked into it much since I don't use pulse on the media server.

@OP - gotta learn to search my friend.
CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

Fixed but I don't actualy know why (perhaps a pulse-audio upgrade).
But it was not at all the same problem than the one graysky points out. And the solution of the post quoted was not a real one : to use alsa instead of pulse audio to avoid to fixing pulse audio problem...
