No sound - alsa fail after upgrade [Mostly Solved]

Alsa cannot start:

sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa start
:: Restoring ALSA Levels                                                                        [BUSY] No state is present for card EWS88MT
Found hardware: "ICE1712" "Wolfson WM9703,WM9707,WM9708,WM9717" "AC97a:574d4c03" "0x153b" "0x1115"
Hardware is initialized using a generic method
No state is present for card EWS88MT
                                                                                                [FAIL]

This happened during the last few weeks upgrades

Edit:
After running alsaconf I get:

sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa start
:: Restoring ALSA Levels                                                                        [DONE]

But still no sound. And there are errors in errors.log:

rpc.statd[954]: failed to create RPC listeners, exiting

Edit2:
The error was because I need to have rpcbind in daemons in rc.conf

Edit3:
After a reboot there is sound again - maybe due to running alsaconf.
But during boot and start of Alsa there is a warning about a daemon starting a daemon - does anybody know what that is?
