I'm looking at this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 … B0038P1TP4 and wondering if I can use it to connect to my TV via USB/HDMI. My Laptop only has a VGA video out.
Everything seems to say Linux compatible with the caveat "Linux configuration for advanced users only". The term "advanced users" is a little vague. I've done some stuff that might be considered advanced I suppose!
It's DisplayLink compatible, so I should be able to get it working with the drivers that are available. Does this sound like a realistic option? Or am I just hoping for too much?

No ideas? Has anyone used a DisplayLink thing successfully?

There is a kernel module for DisplayLink devices and it works.
But speed limitation of USB is a problem, maybe too slow for some applications and far too slow for watching videos. I used it only for pictures and status displays.

Thanks - that's very helpful. Looks like this isn't the solution I was looking for after all... Glad I asked before I bought!
