FreeNX

Has anyone here heard of FreeNX.. and tried it?.  Heard its very fast. I wanted to try it, but having some difficulty installing it, as the core libraries are provided by NX, and have to install them first.

Re: FreeNX

The server is in AUR, and I think someone was busy with the client already (search the forum for it).

Re: FreeNX

It isn't in community yet, and only the pkgbuild for the server is on AUR. So if you want to have that use makepkg to build the package yourself.

Re: FreeNX

I got FreeNX to install .. but I am having problems connection to it from my WindowsXP machine.
This is the error i get :

NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 2804
NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files
NX> 200 Connected to address: 192.168.0.105 on port: 22
NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx
NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey
NX> 204 Authentication failed.

I tried looking for the error on google. All the places that I have looked at ..say that I need to copy the client.id_dsa.key into the share folder of the Windows client, which I already did, but doesnt seem to work.

Anybody have any ideas?.. I used http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … s=1&ID=733 this link to build and install the package.

Re: FreeNX

I fixed one of my links (pkgbuild path) and removed another (screenshot). The rest of the links worked fine for me.

http://e.solarblue.net/index.php/arch-repo/

ps. if you are having trouble reaching archive.kalyxo.org, read the section of that thread about it. I also added information as a comment to the package description section in the AUR for freenx.

Re: FreeNX

no problem. I wish I could remember more of the steps. It has been a while since I installed it..and I have fiddle with tons of things since then...

Re: FreeNX

Finally got it to work!!!  lol

Got help from this wiki:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_FreeNX_Server

Just did the steps outlined in the wiki regarding renaming of the key files and moving them around.. and the freenx server/client worked. And let me tell you.. this thing is definitely faster than any XServer that I have ever seen

Re: FreeNX

yeah. make sure you set the connection speed to "56k", even if you have a better connection. At the lower setting, it turns on all the compression, and round-trip-reducing features.

And congrats on the perserverance.  8)

Re: FreeNX

The new home of the freenx project is on berlios. Here is the link for the most up-to-date version of freenx :

Re: FreeNX

looks like it is just a current version dump. The archive.kalyxo.org has considerably more files in it, and more up to date ones. I would venture that much of the work is still being done there.

Also, I could not find a project page on berlios. Is there one?

Re: FreeNX

Well, hopefully a new wiki system will be coming down the pipe in the future. The current wiki system is rather tempermental.
