Need some Kernel debugging tips...

Hi, I've got this root server which seems to randomly freeze. Once I force a reboot via my provider, the logs show nothing suspicious.

Can anyone recommend me a few things to do, to get more info out of the kernel perhaps?

For all I know, it's just the network or something more serious. The ram in the machine so far checks out ok.

Keep in mind, that this a server I only have network access to, as well as a KVM switch, which (when it works, which is rarely) allows me see some default output of the display.

Do I need to custom compile the kernel with some debug and crash dump options perhaps?
