[SOLVED] Recommended Google Talk Client for XFCE

Hi all,

I come from Gnome and have used Empathy before to make Google Talk calls. I now changed to XFCE and want to keep using Google Talk. I do not mind what application I use, and I do not mind about any other functionality than to be able to call other Google users through the internet. What is a recommended program? I was about to install Empathy, but saw 133MB of mostly Gnome dependencies that need to be installed, and wondered if there are more suitable solutions.

Thanks.

This is a personal preference, and the decision should be as a result of your own searching and trying out of alternatives. As it is it does not seem you even know what's available besides Empathy.

Thank you. I have indeed little experience with other programs; I've only tried a few. I understand this is a personal preference, but was hoping other users could share their experience which might help narrow down the trial and error process significantly.

What you want is an XMPP (Jabber) client that supports libjingle. The only ones I've tried are pidgin and gajim.

There's a reason I mentioned 'searching' first. ConnerBehan has given you some terms that would help.

I prefer the Google Talk browser plugin. It seems to have the best sound quality. ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40056 )
