Question regarding serial installation

Hi, Everybody,

I am updating this thread to ask a more specific question about using a serial port on Arch linux.  Basically I am trying to add the following configuration item to my /boot/grub/menu.lst file;

terminal --timeout=5 serial console

This is in accordance with the documentation found here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wo … al_console

Basically I think that there is a problem with this configuration line, because when it is not present, I see the nice grub ascii menu with the blue border.   When it is present, I see a bunch of lines that say something close to "press enter to continue" repeated probably 8-10 times.  I am thinking that there is potentially a syntax error in this configuration line, but I would like to see more about what is occurring here.  Is there a way to enable logging in grub so that errors are written to a file in /boot/grub?   Could anybody potentially speculate what could be causing this problem?

Thank-you,

Dan Sullivan
