Can't set resolution to 1360x768 on 18.5" monitor

Hello, I've temporarily switched do LG Flatron W1946S-BF with preferred resolution of 1360x768. This res isn't available from my XFCE configs. I've tried to set it via xorg.conf but there's so many ways (modes, modset, virtual, displaysize and so on) to do it that I don't even know what exactly isn't working. Main problem is that I can't set this resolution even for a second using xrandr. This is what I do:

zsh> cvt 1360 768
# 1360x768 59.80 Hz (CVT) hsync: 47.72 kHz; pclk: 84.75 MHz
Modeline "1360x768_60.00" 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync

zsh> xrandr --newmode "1360x768_60.00" 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
zsh> xrandr --addmode DVI-I-2 "1360x768_60.00"
zsh> xrandr --output DVI-I-2 --mode "1360x768_60.00"

And it changes to… 1280x768. It was the same with some smaller sizes. Xrandr simply tries to keep this aspect ratio which is wrong for my monitor. With these res my fonts are terribly ugly. hmm Do you have any ideas how to fix it? System is up to date. I have GF 8600 GT with nouveau drives. Was also trying with nvidia one and I think once I got this resoultion but image was bad placed, with every bad colors and terrible fonts.

Monitor itself is ok, it works on Windows XP and looks ok.

UPDATE:
After xrandr change KDE says that it is 1360x768, but on monitor's OSD I see 1280x768…

Re: Can't set resolution to 1360x768 on 18.5" monitor

What I would try is the binary nvidia drivers and use the nvidia-settings tool, it seems to work better for setting screen resolutions on Nvidia cards, in my experience. It lets me set resolutions that xrandr won't let me, like 1280x720 on my 4:3 monitor if I feel like it (I had good reasons to do it lol, and no, I didn't stretch it out, I had black bars on it). I have it set to output 1360x768 to my LCD TV and I set it through nvidia-settings (though that was the default on it, so maybe a slightly different situation, but similar).

After xrandr change KDE says that it is 1360x768, but on monitor's OSD I see 1280x768…

Well, one of those is right, one is wrong, find out which is which tongue Sometimes on my TV, if I'm in something with a lot of black space (full screen video or something), and I switch inputs, my TV will sometimes say either 1280x768 or even 1024x768, even though it's still in 1360x768). Maybe try taking a screenshot or something, and then an image viewer will tell you the real resolution of your screen.

Re: Can't set resolution to 1360x768 on 18.5" monitor

I've measured it with screen ruler (kruler) and it says I have 1360x768... Problem is that fonts are terribly ugly. Anyways I've also tried nvidia drivers with brand new xorg.conf. It allowed me to pick 1360x768 but image is even worse. For example in word "it" letter "i" is almost invisible and "t" is bold. Just look: http://imageshack.us/f/683/ugly1360x768.png/. It appears that topic name is misleading and problem is with image quality. I don't think it's hinting issue cause it's looks now way to bad. Playing with OSD's (which now says I have 1024x768...) clock and phase also didn't help. I've run out of ideas...
