Battery problems Lenovo Ideapad

Hi,
I'm running Arch on a Lenovo Ideapad Z560. Although the battery says it is going to stretch for another hour or more, the computer conks within 45 minutes. What happens is the battery says it has 50% left. Then within the span of minutes after that happens, it hits < 20% and the The same problem happened to a battery as soon as I bought it last year. As this is the second battery within the span of a couple of months, I'm wondering if there is some kernel setting somewhere that this is caused by. I'm running just openbox without anything fancy. I've read that running just a WM doesn't help one configure the finer battery tweaking details that a WM might do. Thus, a few days ago, I switched to XFCE and the problem persists. What is ruining the battery?

I took it to the Lenovo store and they told me one of the cells had conked and that was why it was behaving funny. I've got a new battery, but this one charges only to 78%. How do I change that? I took a look at the Wiki which has a section on thinkpads, but not ideapads.

Oh man. This is the third battery I've changed. After reaching 50-60%, it just abruptly jumps to 10%, and reports that the battery is dead. I have no idea what the problem could now be.
