Today when I typed
# pacman -Syu
I noticed that pacman isn't doing anything
I get ::Synchronizing Package databases ... and then nothing happens.
The same is the case if I try installing a software using pacman
Is it a problem in the arch server or is a problem at my end ?

If your first mirror isn't available it can take a while for it to stop trying (60 seconds?)
Is it just skipping everything or is it waiting for a while?
if it skips everything it might be that you have some strange pacman.conf settings? or no mirror setup?

That seems strangely long. Does using a different mirror help?

no
does it have anything to do with deleting the "/etc/profile.d/locale.sh" that was suggested on the arch linux homepage ?
ah finally after 15+ mins I get this error message
"error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from archlinux.supsec.org : Connection timed out"

Did you delete them and then reboot? Recently pacman complained there was a conflict with that file (since initscripts seems to own it nowadays, whereas before no package did). But I don't know if that has any effect.

apparently after reboot it started working ... thanks

I just had the same issue, seems the following mirrors are not working quite right:
ftp://archlinux.supsec.org/pub/linux/ar … o/os/$arch
http://archlinux.supsec.org/$repo/os/$arch
Disabled them and it is now working.
