tint2 svn launcher

Hi all.

I'm attempting to follow the wiki article here on creating an openbox menu open through the tint2-svn launcher ability.

Problem is that I can't seem to create a working desktop entry that will work with the tint2 launcher.

This desktop entry ...

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Tint2 Openbox Menu
Comment=xdotool launcher
Exec=/usr/bin/xdotool key ctrl+alt+space
Icon=openbox
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Utilities;Openbox;
StartupNotify=true

... produces this message.

Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/xdotool key ctrl+alt+space" (No such file or directory).

This desktop entry ...

Exec=xterm -e /usr/bin/xdotool key ctrl+alt+space

... launches the desktop file when douobleclicked, even if the xterm flashes on screen for half a second. BUT, it then won't work when linked in the "~/.config/tint2/tint2rc" configuration file. No item shows on the tray. I've gotten system created desktop files to work properly through the same means.

It worked when I tried your first desktop file. (But I changed the keybinding to super+space which I have.)
Have you installed xdotool? If you have, you should have the file /usr/bin/xdotool.
Does your keybinding work?

The second example wouldn't have worked if I didn't have the prerequisites installed.  Strange thing is that it doesn't work without xterm, and it won't launch through tint2.

I'm running OpenBox 3, tint2-svn, and using the openbox-menu. What I was trying to do was create a launcher to bring up the openbox right-click context menu.

I finally got tint2 to show my *.desktop file, but it still requires a terminal plus "-e" for it to work.

Here's my current desktop file.

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Tint2 Openbox Menu
Exec=lxterminal -e xdotool key super+Home
Icon=/usr/share/icons/Tango/128x128/places/folder.png
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Comment=Openbox menu for tint2 launcher
Categories=Application;Settings;

Here's my openbox menu.xml with openbox-menu as the only option.

<openbox_menu>
	<menu execute="openbox-menu -t 'xterm -e' lxde-applications.menu" id="root-menu" label="Applications">
        </menu>
</openbox_menu>

When the system is running a heavy load, the terminal I'm using to launch xdotool can stasy on screen for up 10 seconds. Does anyone have any idea why xdotool won't launch directly from the desktop file?

Here are a couple screens.

All I need to do is get rid of the terminal window popup.

Did you try putting the entire command in quotes? Or maybe just make a script for it:

#!/bin/sh
xdotool key ctrl+alt+space

and then put the script name in the .desktop file

This works, thanks. I needed to logout, and login back in, after making the changes.

I just named it 'tint2menu.sh', and called it from the /usr/local/bin directory.
