[SOLVED] SSD installation: Move existing /var to HD

Hello,

I'm thinking about installing a SSD into my PC running Arch64 with systemd and some other distros on separate partitions. Thinking about high writing volume, I want to put / leave /var on the harddisk.

The first attempt to see what would happen was to move /var (from another system, not from the one where I want to move /var) to another partition and created a symlink. After that, the system doesn't start any more - it seems that Arch tries to write to /var/run which wasn't mounted in early boot phase as it resides on another partition.

I assume the same effect if I put an entry for /var in /etc/fstab.

How can I move /var to another partition without experiencing boot problems? Perhaps the problems only occur with systemd?

Thanks for some advice.

Edit: I tried with fstab entry
/new_dir/var /var ext4 bind

... and it works! No errors on boot.
