Vlc and mplayer don't play videos

Hi men, i have a problem for a few days: when i try to play a video with mplayer, server X crashes and system logs out; if i use vlc sometimes nothing happens (no video or audio output) and sometimes i only listen to the audio, but for the video i get the error "mp4v codec non supported", and it's strange because a few day ago i was able to play them correctly...can you help me to solve the problem please? Thanks!

Here there is the last Xorg log:

Re: Vlc and mplayer don't play videos

TheImmortalPhoenix wrote:

Hi men, i have a problem for a few days: when i try to play a video with mplayer, server X crashes and system logs out; if i use vlc sometimes nothing happens (no video or audio output) and sometimes i only listen to the audio, but for the video i get the error "mp4v codec non supported", and it's strange because a few day ago i was able to play them correctly...can you help me to solve the problem please? Thanks!

It looks similar to this.  I see you have an AMD chip, are you using catalyst?

Re: Vlc and mplayer don't play videos

Probably a long shot, but I had a somewhat similar problem which was resolved by manually setting VLC to use X11 in Preferences > Video.

Don't work for me, still says "mp4v codec not supported"...i just solved mplayer issue by putting vo=gl in ~/.mplayer/config but playing is so slow

Re: Vlc and mplayer don't play videos

Sounds like fglrx isn't loading, might explain player playing slowly.

Could you post your xorg.conf file and the output of

Re: Vlc and mplayer don't play videos

Hmm I think that entry that I pointed out about device 1:0:1 was simply stating that no device section in the xorg file is pointing to the HDMI Audio, which shouldn't be the issue here.

Maybe the problem isn't with catalyst at all, the issue with the codec could be what's crashing X and giving slow playback. Maybe I'm blind, but I can't see anything in that log file pointing to a crash of any sort, just looks like a regular X start up. Could you replicate the problem and copy your xorg log when you're thrown back into tty then post the copied xorg log here?

for my, is the answer

I search from dmesg
[fglrx] IRQ 43 Disabled
fglrx_pci 0000:02:00.0: irq 43 for
[fglrx] IRQ 43 Enabled

and the error from console I log a start of vlc , but cant log a crash, automatly crash X and restart

but changing the ouput fixes it.
