Seagate FreeAgent Go USB HDD disconnects randomly

Hi all,
         I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB external USB 2 HDD in which I have stored some college related files, movies etc. In Linux alone (not in Windows 7) if I use the harddisk for some time it disconnects automatically and dmesg shows I/O error and some mtp-probe errors. Even if I remove and plug-in the HDD (same and diff USB port - immaterial), the light glows but no device entry is created in /dev for the device not even /dev/sdb or sdc. The drive is formatted as GPT with 5 partitions (all NTFS formatted mounted via ntfs-3g) but no operating systems are present (for data usage only).

The /var/log/messages error log is at http://paste2.org/p/1801975 .

Re: Seagate FreeAgent Go USB HDD disconnects randomly

None of the methods mentioned at http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/FAQ/Dea … eFreeAgent work for me.

/etc/udev/rules.d/seagate.rules

SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi",DRIVERS=="sd",ATTRS{vendor}=="Seagate*",ATTRS{model}=="FreeAgent*",
RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 1 > /sys/class/scsi_disk/%k/allow_restart'"
RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 128 > /sys/block/%k/device/max_sectors'"
