I just tried the 2.6.12 kernel and it broke the OV511 compression-enabled driver (I install the ov511-2.28 driver from source so that I can enable compression) - could not compile it possibly due to a different header file. I need compression to give me a reasonable frame rate in video recordings so I thought I could solve this problem with a faster usb 2.0 webcam. I browsed the net some but could not come up with definite info on a suitable make and model known to be compatible with Linux.
I wonder if anyone could kindly recommend a simple usb 2.0 webcam possibly Logitech or Creative or other commonly available brand.
My thanks in advance!
