Title says it all.

if I omit WINEARCH=win32, I can install vcrun2008.  Any idea what I'm missing?

Re: [SOLVED] WINEARCH=win32 can't install vcrun2008

more on this. This was working BEFORE I installed the lib32 versions mentioned in this thread:  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=131522

Any idea what could be the problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED] WINEARCH=win32 can't install vcrun2008

Firstly, it would help if you can describe any error messages you see, anything better than "it doesn't work". ( Don't forget to use [ code ] bbcodes for terminal copypasta )

Also, afaik, WINEARCH is only applied when the WINEPREFIX (or default .wine) is created. Thereafter you may simply omit the "WINEARCH" option.

Out of interest, why did you use WINEARCH in the first place? Usually it shouldn't even be needed.[1]

Edit: On a personal note, I have never had to use WINEARCH until recently when trying to install dotnet20 from winetricks.

Re: [SOLVED] WINEARCH=win32 can't install vcrun2008

@Kaustic,

I had to use WINEARCH when I first installed 64bit, I could not get WoW or Rift to run without it.  I can say that this was working prior to this past full install of arch (mucked up my machine).

As for errors, when installing with WINEARCH, a dialog comes up and says "Installation failed".  I will try "winetricks vcrun2008"  from the command line, instead of going into "winetricks" and then installing the dlls.

I will post more this evening when I get home, I probably omitted installing something this past go around, will probably just end up putting in my Arch dvd and doing a re-install from scratch this evening and ensuring I get all things installed correctly.  Need to get it going before tomorrow, wife is giving me carte blanch this weekend to game.  big_smile

Re: [SOLVED] WINEARCH=win32 can't install vcrun2008

Hm, that's odd as I've managed to run Rift without WINEARCH, but that was fairly long ago (Open Beta). I should probably be prepared to use it more often if later versions of wine are acting up. Any terminal (including the command you used) output would be interesting.

Re: [SOLVED] WINEARCH=win32 can't install vcrun2008

I will give rift a try without WINEARCH to see what happens.  I do remember that when I first installed Arch 64 in May, I needed to use WINEARCH for both rift and WoW.  things may have changed.

However, I checked my system at home, and now I can install vcrun2008 with WINEARCH=win32.  go figure.
