Well confirmed,

pacman -S pacman

and then

pacman -Suy

did it.

But can anyone explain to me why this worked. Usually it's good to be aware of things one does not understand :-/

I had the same issue.

pacman -S pacman

and then a normal system update solved it for me as well, but it still doesn't make any sense...

Same situation here. This solved the issue.  Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to Update due to gcc-libs-multilib and gcc

It's been about two months since I last had the problem and it cropped up again. To fix it this time, I did a pacman -S gcc-multilib. Just as I stated before, the fact that I had to and still have to do stuff like this tells me there's still something wrong!

confirmed.

pacman -S pacman

No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it.

The above worked for me on an i686 system. In my case, I only needed to run...

pacman -S gcc

...before I could update the pacman package.

All: Comment or remove SyncFirst option in /etc/pacman.conf . Thats the culprit.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to Update due to gcc-libs-multilib and gcc

I solved this way:

pacman -R gcc-fortran

and then just update.

Don'y force unistall or don't install "gcc" if you have "gcc-multilib" if you really don't know what you are doing.

There a re basically two way;
You have to find the packet who require gcc, and remove them. Or remove "gcc-multilib" in favor of "gcc".
just find the easier way.

I found the dependencies "gcc-fortran" by yaourt, so i don't know if your is different or witch comand you should use to find who requere to install GCC
