I can't start KMS on a Asus X43E. The laptop has intel hd 3000 graphics.
I have i915 in mkinitcpio.conf. i915.modeset=1 in kernel line not work. I have rebuilded kernel images.
Command: "modprobe i915" says:
WARNING: Error inserting i2c_algo_bit (/lib/modules/3.1.4-pae/kernel/drivers/i2c/algos/i2c-algo-bit.ko): No such device
WARNING: Error inserting drm (/lib/modules/3.1.4-pae/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/drm.ko): No such device

FATAL: Error inserting i915 (/lib/modules/3.1.4-pae/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko): No such device
In default kernel is the same problem.

The path 3.1.4-pae suggests you are not using the stock kernel, but probably the linux-pae kernel from aur ?
What is the output of
uname -r
?
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I think this is a bug in GRUB2 EFI. In GRUB2 BIOS KMS works.
Also I start Archboot CD via EFI and also can't load i915 module.
