Time resets itself to Jan. 10. 2006 at each boot

This happens since about two days.
After a few minutes the time is correct again (I guess due to ntpd).
What could be the cause?

My first thought is check the settings in the BIOS.

Was your mainboard made in 2006? Maybe the battery on it just doesn't work anymore?

I didn't change anything in the BIOS for a long while but the problem showed up only a few days ago.
I don't know how to figure out when the mainboard was made. I bought this laptop used. Most reviews seem to be from 2008. This is an Acer Extensa 5220.
I supected that battery thing could be it, hope it's possible to replace that battery.
