Starting rpcbind Fails

I'm trying to get file sharing to work. I've followed the NFS wiki the best I could and I simply get a FAIL error when trying to start rpcbind. I can't find a meaningful error I could google.

My exports file:
/files *(ro,sync) # Read-only access to anyone

I've tried putting a path where /files is but that didn't help. Do I need to put a path there?

rc.conf daemons (need to find out more about how they work and what they do. They are a black box to me atm):
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng @network gamin nfs netfs crond dbus)

I haven't put the NFS daemons in because I want to start them manually first to have more control.

I've been unable to try and start rpcbind with the -d option to get more output. Grr

Thanks for your time

Re: Starting rpcbind Fails

Solution: When starting the daemons via terminal you have to be root/sudo. I got no error message to point me that direction but then I tried it and it worked. Really annoying that there wasn't an error beyond "FAIL". I don't know how obvious this should have been but it wasn't at all clear to me.
