Does anyone know of a working location to get EAWpatches for timidity? The locations I have been able to find via google seem to have had the package removed.
If anyone knows of a good midi for linux document feel free to suggest it. I'm still not quite sure how to get timidity used as the default midi device for other applications.
Thanks

Gentoo has a good documentation for setting up timidity. It is near the bottom of the ALSA documentation page.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
I have yet to get it up and going in Arch, but that should help you with it a bit. I do not think that timidity in the repository comes with the server though, which kind of sucks but it fixable.

That was the guide I was using but I wasn't exactly sure what the following command did to the init scripts.
rc-update add timidity default
So it kind of stopped me there with that document.
I wasn't aware there was a server portion of timidity. Do you need to download the source and create your own package to get the server functionality.

I have never used either gentoo or timidity, but I'm pretty sure that this
rc-update add timidity default
means adding timidity to /etc/rc.conf in Arch - something like this
DAEMONS=(!syslogd !klogd !hotplug @network @portmap @fam timidity)

rc-update simply adds the init to that runlevel, default being 3 Can't help with timidity at all though...

If by eawpatches you mean this:
http://text.mirror.ac.uk/mirror/distro. … ull.tar.gz
then you should also take a look at this thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … t=timidity
I thought eawpatches are already included now in the standard arch package, aren't they ?
I don't know anything about server version of timidity. I was only testing this application for a short time but normally I use hardware midi (sb live) and this is also on a very rare occasions.
