udev problem

Im having strange problems with udev. In my errors.log this shows up every now and then , and when it does i cant reboot my laptop properly without holding the power button.

Dec 29 20:41:39 localhost udevd[1815]: timeout: killing '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/sdb1' [3752]

When this problem appears it logs the message to errors.log every second.  I think it has to do something with my external hd. How can i fix this?
