Force display resolution

I have an old generic 19" LCD display. On Windows I can use the native resolution (1440x900) without any problem.
On Arch (I tried Ubuntu also, thinking that could be something that I missed), it works only until 1024x768. What can I do to "force" it to work on the native resolution, at least on X?

Thanks,
Ruber

Re: Force display resolution

Please post the output of 'xrandr'. Do you have the correct graphics drivers installed?

Re: Force display resolution

Are you using a vga cable instead of dvi/hdmi?
