[SOLVED] Pulseaudio, and weird init sound -- Hardware workaround found

Hi everyone,

I just installed Arch Linux on my computer, and everything is just perfect.

I installed Pulseaudio to get sound with GNOME 3.2, and because I really like the concept of being able to tweak the different audio channels.
However, I'm having a really strange issue. Whenever a new application register itself through the pulseaudio daemon (?) - i.e. start to play some sound - I can hear a small "crrr crr" in my speakers, which is rather annoying. If the sound to play is too short (like the default error GNOME sound file), I can just hear the sound artifact and nothing else.

I think this is only for the first sound sample. If an application is already playing some sound (like Spotify), I can hear everything perfectly, but if I wait a bit without any sound, the next application to play some sound will trigger the issue.

Is there a way to keep the sound-card or the sound-channel initialized in some way? I'm using the Digital Output of my sound card, and this issue doesn't appear on other OSes like OS X or Windows of course.

I hope my explainations are clear, I'm completely new to pulseaudio so excuse me if I don't use the appropriate vocabulary smile

Thanks!

Gabriel

Re: [SOLVED] Pulseaudio, and weird init sound -- Hardware workaround found

I found an old external USB sound card (still with a S/PDIF digital output) which doesn't have this problem, so I guess it's not a problem with pulseaudio after all, but simply with the ALSA driver for my Realtek integrated audio chip (ALC889).

I guess I can mark this thread as [AUTO-SOLVED] then smile
