Distorted fonts when selecting and moving

Hi everybody.

I have a small problem with my arch install... When I drag selected text on my computer the graphic card goes haywire. Some letters becomes unreadable and sometimes my desktop wallpaper becomes just noise. I have no idea what's causing this, but I believe it is the graphic card driver, because if I use the proprietary fglrx drivers, the problem dissapears.

I would prefer not using the fglrx driver as it seems unstable and I loose KMS. I also get rather poor 2d acceleration with the fglrx drivers (from 3 1080p flash movies at the same time with no lag, to not beeing able to play 1 smoothly). Below I have attached a picture which shows the problem. Notice the bottom bar where you are supposed to see some of the wallpaper.

Have anyone seen this problem before, and managed to fix it?

What is your graphics card? Also, are you sure this is a graphics problem? It sounds like a localization problem to me. Have you installed any fonts?
