HDA Intel tone controls

I'm not sure if this ever worked, but shouldn't the HDA Intel driver (snd_hda_intel) have tone controls available? (device is Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03))

I'm using a Boston Acoustics BA735 speaker system with the subwoofer volume cranked and I barely get any bass response. I guess it could be the speakers, but I don't have anything but a Linux laptop to test them on.

Do the speakers your using (besides the sub-woofer) work fine, or are they quiet as well? To determine if its just your speakers, try using a pair of headphones connected to the laptop (or the laptop's built-in speakers?) and see if the sound quality is good. If all you want to do is boost the bass, most media players have EQs that you can use to boost the low frequencies. Also, I found a Ubuntu forum discussion that has several tips on working with that Intel driver. Let me know if this helps.
