XBMC installed as an app on an existing XFCE desktop setup is not detecting/connecting to the network on this computer.
I use this computer as my main box with an XFCE desktop. Added XBMC for it's 10 foot UI for browsing and playing media on the TV.
Setup X for "seperate.x-screen" mode. Plays media great, weather and adding add-ons not functioning.
I'm pretty sure this is just a XBMC conf problem, but I can't find info on how or where to configure it.

I didn't see anything in our wiki for XBMC, and google mostly leads to dedicated htpc systems and configuring the network settings in the Linux install rather than the XBMC.

Not sure about adding add-ons but the default wheater plugin was broken in XBMC Dharma.

I now use xbmc-pvr-git from AUR and the new weather plugin in Eden works.
Maybe you can try the new XBMC Eden Beta?
I have configured all network settings in Linux rather than in XBMC because I beleive this is the right way to do it. If it is not working in your Linux setup, then I would not expect it to work in XBMC either. For instance I have set up autofs and smbclient to be able to access my fileserver shares easily. I just browse to the directory where my network file systems are automatically mounted.
I know there are some built in functions for browsing network in XBMC, but I prefer to have it working also without XBMC so then additional built-in functions are redundant so I never bother to use them.

After rereading my original post, I see I wasn't real clear on the fact that the network is fully functional on the OS that I installed XBMC on.
Yes I agree with your quote .... but ..... My network is fully functional on the Arch install (existing year + old Arch install with XFCE desktop) that I installed XBMC on.
As far as I have found, XBMC should just detect and utilize the OS's network. If the network is not functional, then it can't use it.
Example: If I installed a web browser, and it didn't automatically detect the functioning network connection of my OS, I'd look into the web browsers network settings and configuration as the likely problem.
I came to the conclusion that XBMC wasn't using the network connection based on the weather forcast not functioning and the add-ons not downloading.
I just may try the beta you suggest if I cant get this issue sorted out.
EDIT BELOW TO ADD INFO:
I removed the XBMC 10.1-11 from the community repo today. I wasn't able to find info to troubleshoot the problem.... so .....
I installed the eden beta version from the AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=55453
XBMC has network connectivity now. Have not had time to test it for playing media yet.
