[KDE 4.7] plasma-desktop uses 100% cpu (on one core) an memory

Hi there!

I didn't found an other topic about this (from this or last year) which can help me.

Well, I installed a Arch on a ThinkPad T61 with Nvidia Quadro NVS140M and want to use it with KDE. As soon as I log in via KDM it will start the plasma-desktop and this uses 100% of one cpu-core (50% of the complete cpu cause of the dualcore) and allocates more and more memory. If I don't kill it, it will do this till the system tells me, there is no more memory for doing anything else. But without plasma, i can't use KDE (no panel or something else).

I tried using the Nvidia-drivers, nouveau-drivers and restarting plasma.

There are no errors or warnings in Xorg.log wich could be cause this problem. Just some warnings about dual monitor using.

Maybe you have some ideas? If you need some more infos, just tell me.

Greetings, Dog

Are you sure it isn't strigi/nepomuk that eats your CPU?

Yes, I am, but I think I've found the problem... It's caused by the "digital clock"-widget and maybe some others too *sigh*

Re: [KDE 4.7] plasma-desktop uses 100% cpu (on one core) an memory

can you elaborate on the solution? I'm having the exact same symptoms (plasma-desktop on 100% cpu until it runs out of memory and is killed by the system).

I'm on a fresh install w/o anything actively installed yet, so it must be related to the "default" kde desktop.

When plasma-desktop is killed (out of memory) i can start a terminal via alt-f2 and could start other programs, so I might be able to change the kde-session if I just know what to disable (and which program to start to see the right settings dialogs).

Re: [KDE 4.7] plasma-desktop uses 100% cpu (on one core) an memory

fixed my problem:

pacman -Rdd phonon-gstreamer
pacman -S phonon-vlc

and kde starts without a problem.
