[SOLVED] New pacman update giving me issues

Hello,

I have been running Arch for a bit over a year without issue. Today I ran an update and it updated my pacman. Now when I try and install the rest of the updates I get this:

19/19) checking package integrity [######################] 100%

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [SOLVED] New pacman update giving me issues

Oh, pacman 4 got into [core]. I wonder why there are no news items on the front page.
Not cool.
Maybe Arch users will be required to follow the rules regarding upgrading and use common sense? ;P

Pacman 4.0.1-4 is in [core] not [testing].  See the link oboedad55 posted for the required steps.

The inconsistency regarding what makes the front-page news is still hilarious, though.

I guess it depends on who makes the decision. One maintainer might prefer to give users some extra hints wrt to his package, another maintainer doesn't see the need.

It's been sitting in [testing] for ages, it's easy to think it would stay there tongue.

My first reflex as [testing] as well.

I have no clue how long it has been there, but it is definitely on the front page (now):

http://www.archlinux.org/news/pacman-4-moves-to-core/

Maybe someone underestimated the speed at which the Arch mirrors sync.

Re: [SOLVED] New pacman update giving me issues

Thanks for the replies.

I added:
SigLevel = Never to pacman.conf

I ran:
pacman-key --init to set it up

I rebooted, cleared pacman cache and this still does not work?

Re: [SOLVED] New pacman update giving me issues

'SigLevel = Never' is already there. If you want signed packages, add 'SigLevel = Optional TrustAll'.

So...  reading the pacman output and merging .pacnew files and everything was fine...   Who would have ever guessed.

Re: [SOLVED] New pacman update giving me issues

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I have the exact same issue and nothing seems to work.

I did merge the .pacnew files, I did change the SigLevel in pacman.conf to Optional TrustAll, I imported the master keys using pacman-key and I even updated my mirrorlist from scatch, just to be sure -- but I still can't install or update anything. What am I missing?

An output of pacman pasted here? The only way for us to help is to be able to read the errors you got.

thank you, worked for me!

Some questions: in the wiki is written that by adding this line pacman trusts every key in the keyring.
Will every program have a key? Or is it only for programs installed from AUR?
Next time i will install a new program will i have to add the key manually?
What about the programs i have already installed, is their key already been added in the keyring or will i have to add it next time the program gets an update?

Thank you smile

@Ranmaru - Allan's referring to:

read the last bit of Pacman-key, at the very bottom, writes:

Potential fix if keys importing fails

The problem could be that some ISP's have blocked the port used to import PGP keys.

Edit /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/gpg.conf ,replace keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net with keyserver hkp://pgp.mit.edu:11371. Everything should work fine.

I find this reply very rude. I do thank those who have helped but I don't really need you pointing out my "duh" moment.

Considering that:
* the news article clearly states that .pacnew and .pacsave should be merged
* several wiki articles on this were updated before pacman 4.x was introduced to the user
* pacman itself drops information to the terminal when things require user actions (the fact that you ran into these messages means pacman said that .pacnew / .pacsave files were installed, you wouldn't have seen these messages otherwise)
* several topics on this exist already
* the archlinux IRC channel's topic tells you to merge pacnew / pacsave files
* the arch mailing list saw an e-mail noting all of this

I appreciate that this feels like a kick in the arse after the fact, but Arch is advertised as a "read the wiki" distro, some level of slapping when reading isn't done is to be expected.

You really do have to properly read things on this distro, that's all that is being pointed out here.

Don't take this too personally or even seriously. If you didnt follow the development of package signing, and dont know Allan, you did miss a lot of background info. With that you would just laugh and shrug. smile

Now *THAT* should be in the running on that old 'arch slogan' thread.  I may have to put it on a t-shirt.
