It seems I'm banned from posting on #archlinux at freenode, despite the fact that I've never been there before this week. What are my options? I'm guessing the ban is based on name (and I'd like to know who's been using my nick) rather than IP, but who do I contact to fix it?

Ask one of the ops: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IR … _operators

Thank you - I'm slowly getting used to the idea that with Arch there's a wiki for everything.

Why do you think you're banned? You can't post or ...?

Ahh, I didn't realise that unregistered users couldn't post on freenode. I am actually registered as a consequence of visiting another channel a long time ago, but I'll be blowed if I can remember the password. Never mind, I can always re-register.

Unregistered users can't post in #archlinux, not all across freenode. The restricition is in place to deter spammers.

Solved?

Sorry, after installing and removing a bunch of stuff experimentally to fix problems I went back to the start and reinstalled Arch (I like a clean and tidy system), and I hadn't gotten around to reinstalling xchat yet. I have, I registered, and the can now post on #archlinux.
Thanks everyone
