Videos slow when fullscreening?

I have an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4500 on my laptop which should be more then enough to play flash videos and normal videos at fullscreen,
I also have the catalyst driver installed.. I have also had previous distros on it (fedora and ubuntu) where the flash player worked fine so not sure whats wrong here..

However whenever I fullscreen flash player plugin in firefox (same thing on chrome) it becomes slower and also begins to hang in and out..

This also happens when using vlc, the wierd thing is lets say that vlc is maximised but not fullscreened, if I then fullscreen it it will play fine with no slowness whatsoever. However if vlc is not fullscrened with a small window (i.e. not maximised) and I fullscreen it, it begins to lag and become slow when it is fullscreened.. sad

Flash player is slow all the time when fullscreened however the windows have always started off quite small so this may be the issue.. (runs fine when not at full screen)

Can someone please help me solve this problem? sad

Thanks in advance!

P.S

Forgot to say I'm using Xfce, compiz is installed but not being used yet..
