After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

Hello guys,

I've an Asus e35m1-i deluxe ITX mainboard which I use as an htpc. Yesterday I decided to give it an update to kernel 3.2.1 and now the pc freezes if I'll want to suspend it. It makes the VT switch and then freezes with blackscreen. If I downgrade to my 3.0 kernel everything is working again.

I've already tested hpet=disable.

Does anyone know a fix or has the same problems?

greetings

I think this is probably the issue that's reported and discussed here with udev timeouts,  but you'll have to post some logs or dmseg for anyone to help.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

No it has nothing to do with udev. The last thing that happens is, that pm-suspend.log contains something like "performing suspend".

As I have said, suspend works perfectly with kernel version 3.0-*. It has to be a problem with version 3.2*. Tried the stock archkernel and a 3.2-rt10 kernel.

Greetings

Same here, laptop Asus F3Ka.

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99video suspend suspend: success.
Mon Jan 23 20:51:24 CET 2012: performing suspend

Suspend itself looks fine to me, system freezes right after waking up.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

I have a same problem after updating linux 3.2.1-1 -> 3.2.1-2

I had a suspend problem on kernel 3.1.5, which was solved on kernel 3.1.7.
The problem was a fail at resume process caused by hpet.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=131827

This time, when I try to suspend-to-RAM, my display becomes black screen, but a white blinking cursor appears.
CPU fans keeps running and any operation isn't accepted, except hard reset.
hpet=disable workaround doesn't help.

I'll try this at home later. But for me the problem is, that the system not even suspends. It freezes before suspending the machine.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

Sorry, my problem is not caused by kernel.
After I have downgraded kmod to module-init-tools and other dependent packages(udev and mkinitcpio), suspend-to-RAM has got to work on kernel 3.2.1-2.
So this problem might be caused by kmod, udev, or mkinitcpio.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

OK, I found out the problem.
In my case, wacom intuos3 tablet had prevented my system from suspend-to-RAM.
If you use wacom tablet, unplug it.

2012.1.28
After updating to kernel 3.2.2 and udev 179-1, my system fails at suspend again even without wacom.
Downgrading to kernel 3.2.1 and udev 178 doesn't solve the problem, either.
I don't have time to inquiry for now, so I will go without suspend.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

My suspend now don't even work with my 3.0-rt10 kernel which I was using a few months totally stable with suspend. :-( really annoying

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

FINALLY I have found a workaround in my case.
Trying methods described in this link, I found that a module tpm_infineon causes pm-suspend to fail.

modprobe -r tpm_infineon

or

echo 'SUSPEND_MODULES="tpm_infineon"'>/etc/pm/config.d/workaround

have fixed suspend on my system(kernel 3.2.2-1).
I think this is a bug, so I will post this issue on bugtracker later.

I don't know if this is your case, but it is worth seeing the link above.

Re: After upgrade of linux-3.0 to linux-3.2 suspend freezes computer

It was just fglrx again. So I'm now running fglrx 11.12 and kernel 3.0-rt(something) and it works just fine. I think I will stay with that because updates on this machine a completly unneeded. It just has to play music and movies wink
