I'm not sure what I did to cause this, but when I started my computer up yesterday, pacman's given me this message whenever I try to update or install anything.

Here's the last few days' worth of log entries in /var/log/pacman.log. I can't find anything that would indicate any sort of problem.

[2012-01-26 12:23] starting full system upgradeThe one thing I can think of is that before I shut down the night before this problem occurred, it was telling me there was some conflict, and it wanted to remove a package. I believe I told it not to remove it, because I wanted to do a complete backup before removing a package I didn't know anything about. I believe it had the word "mod" or "mode" in it, not sure, it definitely started with an "m" though.

I just noticed something new. At the end of the long error message when I try running sudo pacman -Syu, I got this
:: Replace lib32-libgl with catalyst/lib32-catalyst-utils? [Y/n]
:: Replace module-init-tools with core/kmod? [Y/n]
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflict. Remove module-init-tools? [y/N]
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflictI'm pretty sure it didn't do that yesterday. However, I'm 90% certain that module-init-tools was the package it wanted me to remove. It didn't give me these errors before I shut down 2 nights ago though
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/archlinuxfr.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/archlinuxfr.db: Unrecognized archive formatit only gave me the dependency conflict.

I had exactly the same problem after upgrading to pacman4, but only with the core repo, it turns out the database at /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db was empty, though it had been fine before the upgrade.
Running
pacman -Syyto update the databases fixed it for me. I hope this helps.

remove the module-init-tools and do an 'pacman -Syy'.

I removed module-init-tools earlier, but it wasn't until I did 'pacman -Syy' that the error went away. Thanks.
When I did update, it ended up breaking my catalyst drivers. Didn't have catalyst-hook or catalyst-daemon installed, so it couldn't run. Booted in runlevel 3 and installed hooks and it works fine now. I really wish xf86 worked on my machine, I'm so sick of catalyst >_>

I'm getting this exact error. I also tried running pacman -Syy, but I still get this error every time I run pacman -Syu. It doesn't seem to affect the upgrade of non core packages - which, I suppose, makes sense.

Also - I don't have module-init-tools installed...

Nevermind - If figured out that mine was broken because dansguardian decided it didn't like my mirror. My core.db was actually an html file explaining this to me! Adding the mirror to the exceptionsite list and running pacman -Syy fixed the problem.

Good. Please go ahead and edit your first post, edit the title title, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the thread title.
