blank screen on resume

Since about 2 weeks, after running pm-suspend, my hp 2540p laptop shows a blank screen only after resume.
This happens when suspending from console as well as from a graphical desktop (KDE).

In /var/log/errors.log, the next line appears:
[drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to train DP, aborting

I've been searching the web; some older links in ubuntu forums mention this issue and relate it to an external monitor, I do not have the skills to understand their solution and I have the issue also when no external monitor is present. A recent link that seems to exactly match my situation is this one, on the Gentoo forum:

Am I right in that I can expect that a future kernel version will solve my problem?
