[SOLVED] Volume levels on usb mic not remembered/stored

I'm running Arch 64 on my machine with an onboard intel soundcard and nvidia 520 GT graphics card. I have a Blue Snowball usb mic attached to my machine. When I updated KDE from 4.7.4 to 4.8.0 I decided to setup my profile from scratch, e.g. I deleted .kde4 and logged in again. Now kmix doesn't remember the volume settings on my mic. I've tried setting them using alsamixer and doing a "alsactl store". But upon relogin the volume on my mic it set to zero again. All the volumes on my onboard intel soundcard are stored and remembered by the way.

EDIT: Fixed in KDE 4.9.0 (see upstream bug report).

Did you only relogin, or also reboot? I think having alsa in DAEMONS should automate the save/store and restore (for reboot), and if it was just a relogin, I would suspect kmix or some other KDE part (and I can't be very helpful, I don't use KDE anymore).

I tried both and at every login the volume for the usb mic is set to zero.

Re: [SOLVED] Volume levels on usb mic not remembered/stored

I have the same problems and I discovered is not Alsa! The file asound.state is modified after a KDE logout/login.
I have set the right volume for digital, capture and internal mic, log out from KDE 4.8, login and the levels are down to zero!!!

The only solution, waiting a fix, is to make a little script for kde stratup with commands like -amixer sset Record 25- etc.
In this case alsa is working fine.

Ahh... thanks for the heads up.

Re: [SOLVED] Volume levels on usb mic not remembered/stored

Try to set your volume levels at your prefered values an run afterwards

kmixctrl -s

to store your volume levels in kmixer.

For some reason kmixer restores volume levels on login, but never saves them on logout. Even when I disable the kmixer-option to autmatically restore values on login.
So you can force kmixer to manually save your volumes.

Btw: These settings are stored file

~/.kde4/share/config/kmixrc
