Hello all,
I hope I am posting this in the right place as this involves the pacman upgrade and problems with KDE.
I was having issues doing the recent full upgrade and having errors where it would quit. I first decided since my root partition was 70% I would grow it to 13GB.
After that I was still have conflicts with files already existing on the system so I hid all of the files in conflict (good idea?).
Now when I boot the screen is all white, with my mouse, and yakuake starts and drops down but sticks. KDM seems to be working fine and I have tried several different desktop modes.
Does anyone have any advice?
[EDIT] I have tried the solutions offered when searching this problem in the forums and the web...

I am going to try re-installing kde... will update
[EDIT-UPDATE]
I re-installed and opted for the kdebase install since I thought the full install is bloated and am still having a white screen. I am thinking maybe one of the files I hid should not be:
/root/.kde4
/home/user01/.kde4-back
/home/user01/.kde4
/usr/share/.kde4
here are kde files not hidden:
/etc/kde
/etc/pam.d/kde
/usr/lib/kde4/imports/org/kde
/usr/lib/kde4/platformimports/touch/org/kde
/usr/share/gettext/projects/KDE
/usr/share/ontology/kde
/usr/share/doc/kde
/usr/share/apps/kde
/usr/share/apps/plasma/shareprovider/kde
/usr/include/KDE
[EDIT UPDATE2]
I am uninstalling kde4 again. Now I am removing any files associated with kde4 and re-installing the kfull kde4...

Re-installed full kde4.8 and problem is gone. I think it had something to do with photon-vlc vs photongstreamer but the world will never know. Thanks for the help.
[EDIT]
for those who may stumble upon this and asks, well how did you re-install kde4?
sudo pacman -Rnsc kde
sudo pacman -Syu kde

sudo pacman -Rnsc kde sudo pacman -Syu kde
As I use kde-meta, above worked for me by changing :
sudo pacman -Rnsc kde
sudo pacman -Syu kde-meta
Notice: be aware of flag meaning, check in man packman if unsure. Because cascade removal in above case might be or not what you want. (usually it's ok)
