this suggests that mesa might be causing the problem. i personally do not use any fancy desktop environment or window manager. so do i really need mesa? will all websites display properly in firefox without mesa?
Mozilla Firefox 10.0
mesa 7.11.2-1
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
xf86-video-intel
[edit]
checked /var/cache/pacman/pkg and noted that mesa-7.11.2-1 is the most recent mesa package and it was updated on November 28, 2011 on my laptop ... however i did not experience any such problem with firefox crashing during December 2011 or January 2012
i should also add that firefox-9.0.1-1 was also crashing before i updated to 10.0.

Did you try to reinstall mesa? To uninstall it, delete config and reinstall, you could
pacman -Rndds mesa && pacman -S mesa

Maybe an advise at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42128 would help you.
just noticed that setting webgl.disabled to true in the about:config settings
of firefox lets me get away with the crashing when i visit github.comincidently as mentioned in this bug report
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42611 firefox crashes when i visit
http://get.webgl.org/ as well

yes sir, setting webgl.disabled to true in the about:config settings works great! also i did not experience and setback in performance on most of the sites.
[edit : some wrong pastes ]
i must mention that my laptop is a very very old model and gnome3 shell does not work ... so i guess i won't be missing any webgl coolness.

molqr, to prevent Firefox from crashing, in about:config change webgl.disabled to true.
WebGL can't be used in that hardware so you won't loose anything.
