Hey all,
Since I installed Pidgin it hasn't been updating the contact list when someone either comes online or goes offline; it always shows the contacts that are online when it logs me on. I don't know what causes this (it could be a missing dependency since my install is pretty minimal) and a search didn't provide the answer.
I don't know what information to give you (running Pidgin from terminal shows nothing), so if you need anything please ask. I'm using Windows Live Messenger and Pidgin version is 2.10.1 with libpurple 2.10.1 as well.
Thanks in advance guys!

I just added my Facebook account and those contacts are getting updated. This makes me think that it is a WLM issue, instead of a Pidgin one.
Perhaps anyone could confirm this?

Maybe someone could recommend me another (lightweight) GTK2 IM client which supports WLM/MSN?

I just heard from a friend of mine who uses Pidgin on Windows, that her contact list isn't getting updated either since the last Pidgin update. Should I report this as a bug at Pidgin or at libpurple?

I use the latest version of Pidgin extensively with Arch and Windows and haven't had any problems with updating buddy list. Maybe it's the server you're connected to?

Could you elaborate on that?

If the server you're connected to is having a problem, or has any incompatibilities with Pidgin, it could cause problems. I think you said you were using Live Messenger service, so maybe something is wrong with their server...? I use Pidgin with Jabber and YIM! and have almost no trouble, especially not with the buddy list updating.
I haven't used it, but there is also xchat. I'm not sure if you can use Live Messenger with it, but it's worth looking into if you don't like Pidgin. There are others too.

Ah, I assumed you were using WLM as well so I thought you were talking about a specific WLM server. As I said in post #2, my Facebook contacts do get updated so I assume it's WLM specific and since a friend of mine has it on Windows, it has to be some WLM + Pidgin combination that isn't working after the latest update.
I think this is a bug so I wonder where to report this....

You might want to make the the parenthesis around 'pidgin' brackets, though...couldn't make a link with brackets in it.
Hope this helps.

But isn't it an upstream issue instead of Arch packaging? And perhaps this is even a libpurple bug, instead of Pidgin...

EDIT: I'm now having the same issue using Google Talk

There's been some progress on this bugreport, as you can read: http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/14930
There supposedly is a fix, but on 2.10.2 it doesn't work yet. Perhaps it does on the development version, but I couldn't get it to work. If you're interested, perhaps you can give it a try? The link to the .diff that is supposed to fix it: http://developer.pidgin.im/viewmtn/revi … fication.c

Same here.
Pidgin -> 2.10.2 -> MSN/WLM
Contacts come online but won't go offline.

Please mention the same on my bugreport and also try getting the dev version to build

2.10.3 resolves this problem.

Awesome, let's see when this gets in the repo's!
EDIT: I compiled it from source, but I get the same result as with applying the patch on 2.10.2: statuses don't switch to offline, but to mobile instead.
I'll await the official Arch package though, but I don't think it'll work...
