Trouble getting hibernate to work "no such device"

The "hibernate" script from aur just gives

dan@dandesk ~ % sudo hibernate
/bin/echo: write error: No such device

Is this a problem with my swap partition that I've never realised I had before? I've only just started trying with hibernate to use powersaving, since utilities costs are getting huge.

Suspend works, takes a while to wake up with a blinking cursor.

I tried compiling a lts kernel with the hibernate partition specified, I also have the resume device in my grub lines
