Re: e17-cvs packages

Hi, I'm new to Arch. It's an excellent distro big_smile

Here's what i did, installed the base packages, xorg, e17 from fouinix repo with all the dependencies.

When I ran
$/opt/e17/bin/enlightenment

I got an error saying that can't initialize connection with X. And I'm told to check the DISPLAY environment.

How can I solve this? Thx for any help big_smile

Re: e17-cvs packages

How about changig your .xinitrc to start enlightenment instead of whatever other window manager you are using? Then run startx. Enlightenment won't start X for you, so it's not surprising it can't connect to X.

Shadowhand: I've installed that. Actually I can run it from terminal. But I'm just wondering why they aren't in the place where they're supposed to be.

Btw, I compare it with the one in www.get-e.org

Re: e17-cvs packages

CVS Update - It's Now Possible To Use The X-Pointer - Brian 'morlenxus' Miculcy (Tue, 27 Sep 2005 13:17:59 +0000)
The current cvs has a new enlightenment_remot option: -use-e-cursor-set
You can select if you want to use the themeable e17-pointer or the default x-pointer. After setting the option you need to restart enlightenment to apply the setting.

I have updated to cvs-20050930,but the option: -use-e-cursor-set 0/1
still not available.
Anyone knows what's the matter ?

Re: e17-cvs packages

Hi,

I have installed the latest Blue Eyed (0.5.9) but the window buttons (min, max) dont work. The default theme is working ok. I thought the problem was solved with this version?

Re: e17-cvs packages

Yes, idem for me
Problem with Blue eyed 0.5.9 and the latest cvs.

I finish my update of Arch (gcc4 and kernel 2.6.13) and I make a new cvs of e17.

Please be patient.

Re: e17-cvs packages

Don't you have problems compiling e17-cvs since the libtool slay ? Compiling most of packages isn't a problem, though, but some others lead me to build crashes: ewl, e_modules, engage. There might be more after, but those are blockers.

Those packages asked for libfreetype.la and libjpeg.la. So I compiled the freetype2 and libjpeg packages enabling the creation of .la files. It passed, but now the e17-cvs packages do ask for libGL.la, and I can't find this file. I thought it could be mesa3d, but no: it doesn't generate any .la file. I searched the Debian repository, but there is no libGL.la...

I'm stucked here, this file is nowhere to be found. I'm able to build up to e17, but cannot build anything more (I need the engage module at least, since I'm a big user of the notification area)...

The solution isn't to make those files, the solution is to get rid of the .la files that reference libfreetype.la and libjpeg.la, namely, the .la's in /opt/e17/*/lib/*

After you remove these files ( ' rm -f `find -type f -name '*.la'` ' seems do do the trick rather well) then things will build find again. Note that you will have to rebuild things in the proper order (check get-e.org for this order) in order to completely nuke the references to .la files. Also, make sure you install every package that you build before building the next package, and that you are nuking the .la files in the packages you are building. I use the following code to do my libtool slaying (place after the "install" line in the PKGBUILD):

  #libtool-slay !
  rm -f `find $startdir/pkg -type f -name '*.la'`

Re: e17-cvs packages

I'm sorry, I should have said I previously tried to slay the .la files from e17's packages, adding the 'find' line you just give. It builds correctly the packages that were already building, but it crashes on the same packages (ewl, e_modules, engage), asking for libevas.la and such.

I think I'll slay all the .la files in /opt/e17 by hand, will then check the build order in my script, uncomment the 'find' line in my PKGBUILDs and try again...

Re: e17-cvs packages

I've been (re)building E17 since "the big upgrade". Once you kill all the .la's in /opt/e17/*/lib, everything will work fine. Remember: as of "the big upgrade", .la files are no longer supposed to exist in Arch, so you're better off to just kill them now. Once those are gone, the missing file problems will dissappear.

I updated e17 (and hence e_modules) this morning and it was not corrupted. So I guess it happened after then?
