Hi,
I have a strange problem with gaim. Using e17, if I open a terminal and launch gaim from command line, it works just fine. However, if I click on the icon it doesnt work and my cpu goes to 100%. I can't kill it by "killall enlightment". I need to reboot.
Thanks if you can help!

have you tried using "ctrl alt backspace" or kill -9 pidnumber

Yep, ctrl-alt-backspace (NOT ctrl-alt-delete) kills X.

youve obviously got an existing install of enlightenment.
you cant have multiple versions of the same package, so remove all of your previous enlightenment packages before installing the cvs versions.

Father, I don't see the relation...
It's a simple problem with imlib2-devel and imlib2-cvs, a simple conflicts
I supposed imlib2-cvs is downloaded so, try this:
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/imlib2-cvs-20051011-1.pkg.tar.gz
imlib2-devel and imlib2-cvs provies both imlib2 so, imlib2-devel will be replaced by imlib2-cvs.

Hi saint,
I removed all reference to imlib2-devl and then reinstalled e17 ( group)
Now I am a happy e17 user.

as cool as this is ... you don't have it setup to run in opengl mode on the background and modules which makes e17 terribly slow.

Actually, using OpenGL is considered not safe at the moment by the E17 devs. Compiling with OpenGL support isn't exactly easy either. With any decent processor, E17 should run just fine (anything over a 700Mhz), unless your processor is on it's way out the door.

Actually me and about half the irc users on e17 are all using opengl mode. It not only tax's your proccessor less but everything functions at the proper speed "ie layered desktop background" .. Its completely easy to compile it with opengl mode "I am only talking about containers here ie background modules..." I do tend to agree if you activate opengl on the entire e17 package it will break it, but for containers it makes a massive difference.

As simplistic as simple can be. Its only a small change in the "e" package and at least offer both actually makes this repo alot more useful. Lots of nay sayers to opengl but e17 is really speedy and useful when running opengl on the containers which is completely stable and proven to be.

For people without OpenGL accelerated hardware, it's going to run slower though...

I used to try runnint in opengl, but it kept crashing, and if one was to watcch a movie or play a game, it would fail...
is this fixed?

By the way Maverick, those instuctions no longer apply. There are switches for enabling OpenGL instead of hacking the Makefile.
·¬»· i am shadowhand, powered by webfaction

They still work but yes there are switch. You can now play games in opengl with no issues and watch moveis.. I do it all the time. What I am mearly suggesting here is to have a e-opengl package for those "80%" of us who can use it to get the full potential out of e17. Once most users use opengl mode they will wonder wtf they where even doing on the software mode. And as a previously stated it will make this repo actually useable for many many more users then its current condition.

Founix:
Can't you include these modules as well: e-calendar and e-volume, they are great,
I've made two pkgbuilds tha you may use, and they are in a new group that I have called e17-modules
The first one, ecalendar is from the authors site, the other one will get a cvs-repo soon and when this happens I will post a new pkgbuild, untl then I have uploaded a patched verson of e-volume to my webserver
My intention is to find a lot of thirdparty modules and include them as a e17-module pack
