Bluetooth headset not detected

I have a Philips tapster headphone that works fine with my android phone.
I have been trying to use it with Arch, but without much help.

hcitool scan

doesn't detect the headset. However, it does detect my phone as a bluetooth device (indicating that bluetooth is working fine). Anything I am missing here?

This may be a stupid question but sometimes the simple solution isn't the most obvious. Are you putting the headphones into pair mode before trying to add the device?
