I have been having problems with the rtl8188ce wireless card on my thinkpad x220. I haven't seen any good solutions, so I thought I'd try another card. I know that the thinkpads have issues with non-Lenovo branded cards because of the bios whitelist, but I read that one workaround is to keep the original lenovo card in the first pcie slot and then add the second non-whitelisted card in the second slot. I had a spare card lying around, so I thought I'd give it a try. The card is an AzureWave card (AW-NE771, I think) which says it uses the Atheros AR5B91 chip. Although I don't see this mentioned a lot in my searches, it does seem that people can get it to work without much effort.
My problem is that lspci does not even detect the card. Not surprisingly, going through all the other steps from the wiki for getting wireless working do not work either. Perhaps this is a result of the whole whitelist issue, but I read that the problem that usually shows up there is that the machine simply won't boot with a non-whitelisted card; so that doesn't seem to be the issue here.
I'm relatively new to this, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about why this card isn't detected and what I can do to get it working.
