Double Fine Adventure coming to Linux

As some of you may or may not know, Double Fine decided to try and free itself from the clutches of money hungry publishers and raise money to create a game funded by gamers.
The result was an overwhelming amount of money raised in very little time. Because of this overwhelming amount, they are now able to add more things than they originally planned.

One of those things is Linux support!

So if you like classic point and click games and would like to support Double Fine in this venture and wouldn't mind to spend at least $1 ($15 will get you the game on release), don't hesitate to pledge some money.

Cool. Now we get to pay for games before they're even made! I'm full of neverending joy.

Why not? Nobody makes you pay, you're just given the opportunity.

It's called crowd funding. Nothing new.

Re: Double Fine Adventure coming to Linux

I was only being half-serious. This concept is the reason, why the Dreamcast got new games from time to time, even after Sega abandoned the console. I'm just a little worried, because big developer studios (like Obsidian Entertainment) think about using kickstarter, which might lead to other (less friendly) companies like EA or Activision abusing those platforms as some sort of free marketing kickass in the wrong direction.

I really hope the concept will be beneficial to both, developers and friends of good games.

I like crowdfunding if it means we can get games without DRM and without funding the intermediaries more than the creators, but I'm disappointed that people only get the right to play the game if they pay $15 or more. Maybe I've been spoiled by the indie bundles... Also if I am to believe the video people who don't back the project on kickstarter will get DRM? That's not clear.

Re: Double Fine Adventure coming to Linux

I personally prefer the route taken by games like Minecraft, Project Zomboid and coming "soon" Overgrowth. Where you pay up-front for a un-complete game but get to start playing alpha builds and can see the way the game is coming together. It's more "fulfilling" to see your money actually going to a project where you can see progress.

Crowdfunding sounds fine, but not my cup of tea for sure. It is much easier for me to support a dev who is working on something can show me whats going on.

Well, it's a point&click adventure. If you know the story beforehand, why would you want to play that game? Beside they give updates about their project, let the community give input and they have a closed beta (for backers).

Re: Double Fine Adventure coming to Linux

My remark wasn't directed at Double Fine, I understand that the nature of certain games would make it hard for the devs to open it up to public. Just saying, personally, I have a easier time giving money where the efforts of the devs are clearly visible and easy to follow.
