Sorry, I am very poor in english.
I'm logging into kde session from kdm starting through /etc/inittab.
I opened two terminals and user2 logged into tty1(ctrl+alt+F1 and log in)
in debian , it returns like this
$ w
17:41:31 up 12 min, 4 users, load average: 0.27, 0.14, 0.04
USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
user2 tty1 17:41 16.00s 0.19s 0.17s -bash
me pts/0 :0 17:37 4:14 0.00s 0.22s kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit]
me pts/1 :0.0 17:37 3:44 0.16s 0.16s /bin/bash
me pts/2 :0.0 17:37 0.00s 0.09s 0.00s w$ who
user2 tty1 2012-02-19 17:41
me pts/0 2012-02-19 17:37 (:0)
me pts/1 2012-02-19 17:37 (:0.0)
me pts/2 2012-02-19 17:37 (:0.0)I think this is correct.
but in arch, it returns only two lines
$ w
17:45:25 up 1:23, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.04, 0.10
USER TTY LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
me :0 16:22 ?xdm? 4:13 0.00s /bin/sh /usr/bin/startkde
me pts/0 16:22 1:22m 0.00s 0.00s /usr/bin/kwrited$ who
me :0 2012-02-19 16:22
me pts/0 2012-02-19 16:22 (:0)how can i get the correct return in arch?

I am sorry if my English is hard to understand. Please ask if you would like me to explain something again.

Thanks for reply.
Hmm...
I feel it is similar.
But in my case, there is no output of tty login,too.
I found my old archlinux in vbox shows
$ w
22:45:50 up 4 min, 3 users, load average: 0.10, 0.20, 0.12
USER TTY LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
user1 tty1 22:42 3:18 0.03s 0.00s -bash
me :0 22:41 ?xdm? 41.09s 0.01s /bin/sh /usr/bin/startkd
me pts/0 22:41 4:19 0.00s 0.00s /usr/bin/kwritedAnd after update it
$ w
23:25:28 up 0 min, 2 users, load average: 0.60, 0.14, 0.05
USER TTY LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
me :0 23:25 ?xdm? 14.81s 0.01s /bin/sh /usr/bin/startkd
me pts/0 23:25 4.00s 0.00s 0.01s /usr/bin/kwritedSo, I think this issue has been caused by two bug.
One is that Karol pointed out.

I suppose FS#19392 and upgrading shadow package (4.1.4.3-5 -> 4.1.5-3) cause this issue.
Reporting bug is too difficult for my poor English :-(

Looks like this was a mistake by the shadow maintainer. He says it’ll be fixed soon. ![]()

Do you mean the upstream shadow maintainer or the Arch one? Because that Arch bug linked to earlier on has its last comments in 2011...

I meant the upstream shadow maintainer. The Arch bug is something different (as far as I can tell), unrelated to the shadow package.
