automount/autofs problem with xffm

I am setting up arch with xfce4.
Xfce4 is working ok.
Tried to install autofs/automount.
Followed the instructions on the wiki to the letter!

Have come up, however, with a weird problem.

None of the /media directories come up in xffm (cdrom, floppy or usbstick) whether as root or normal user.

They come up fine in a terminal (either as root or user) but not in xffm.
They only come up in xffm if I am currently at the same directory in a terminal window.
This is independent of whether xffm is run as root or normal user.

Seems very weird to a newbie to arch.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Peter

Re: automount/autofs problem with xffm

It appears that autofs only works properly with the command line and not graphical file managers.

I tried loading and using nautilus as well but got exactly the same behaviour.

automount only works in a graphical environment after the removable media has been recognised from the command line.

This might just be a problem with the xfce winodw manager.

Has anybody got automount working directly from a graphical file manager?

Try something like ivman + hal + dbus.

Works awesomely.

Thanks for the tip.
ivman looks good.
I think i will try and install and configure it

Is there a good wiki/help page regarding step by step installation and configuration?

Re: automount/autofs problem with xffm

Just install them, and take the .default off the default configs in /etc/ivman/.
