udev et (h)al question

i use udev like many others with my own rules to map my iPod and various usb sticks to static /dev entries. All these entries are then in my fstab to mount them.
But now when I plug one of my usb storage devices, it also creates a folder in /media/ for this device and it can be mounted accordingly.

I just wander what process automatically creates this folder as I don't want that.

Thanks for any suggestions.
