Bad battery life and no touchpad scrolling on Dell Vostro 3750

I posted this on reddit last night, but figured I'd try it here too.

I've got a Vostro 3750 with a Core i7 2630QM and a GeForce 525m. I have bumblebee working for the most part (I don't think it disables the discrete card, but IIRC that's done on purpose). As such, the battery life is terrible, averaging about an hour and and a half shorter than I get on Windows. Also, the laptop runs substantially hotter than it does on Windows, which I think is related.
My other problem is the lack of scrolling of any kind on the touchpad. I've tried to get X to use the Synaptics driver, but it says it can't detect any Synaptics devices. Realizing that I have an ALPS touchpad, I installed psmouse-alps from the AUR, which still didn't work. I'm really getting tired of having to click and drag on the scrollbars. Scrolling is a bigger issue than battery life, since I'm rarely far from a plug.
Thanks in advance.

Please change your title to something more informative AND provide more details than "installed X and it didn't work".

I don't know what else to provide. I've given as much information as I can. If you were to ask me something specific, I'd be glad to post it, but I can't go on just "need more information".
