[SOLVED] Disabling pc speaker beep

Since updating last week, my pc speaker on my netbook has begun beeping on boot when dbus is activated and after boot when scrolling too far unless I use xset -b. I would like to disable the pc speaker as on my netbook it is very loud and distracting.

I have already tried blacklisting the pcspkr and pcsp modules. After the beep happened on boot I tried rmmod to remove the modules manually, but it stated that neither was loaded.

I have no idea how my pc speaker is still working. Is there another module I need to blacklist?

Edit: The solution was to mute the beep in alsamixer, simply setting the sound level of the beep to 0 did not solve the issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Disabling pc speaker beep

On mobile computers, the beep goes through the sound card. Alsamixer should have a beep slider that you can mute.

Re: [SOLVED] Disabling pc speaker beep

Thank you Gusar, I had already set the sound level of the beep to zero in alsamixer but that did not stop the beeping. Muting it however did stop it. I assume that muting and setting the sound level to zero are different in some way, and that the beep is not affected by changing it's sound level.

And Keen90 I already had that set in my xstart but it could not stop the beep from happening on boot, before X was loaded.

Re: [SOLVED] Disabling pc speaker beep

Actually, the beep *is* affected by the slider. Set it to full... and cover your ears smile. Yeah, you'd think that setting the slider to zero would effectively mute the beep, but not the case here.
