Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

After the upgrade to linux 2.6.12 my right shift key and alt gt key stops working in X, but works in the console. This is a big problem since i then can't enter things like {, } or ~, which is needed for my c++ coding.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Can you post your keyboard section from /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?

Re: Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

Should have mentioned the I use a swedish keymap and that this is on a laptop.

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier  "Keyboard0"
    Driver      "kbd"
    Option      "XkbRules" "xfree86"
    Option      "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option      "XkbLayout" "se"
EndSection

Re: Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

Also noted this in the Xorg log:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error:            bad length in CompatMap
>                   Output file "/var/tmp/server-0.xkm" removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
(EE) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

Re: Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

Hmm. Looks like you have to try add something to your config. Like maybe

Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"

You can also change XkbRules to xorg instead of xfree86.

I've googled around but most answers are in a language I don't understand :-)

Try yourself:

Re: Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

Neither of those Options worked.
And changing XkbRules did nothing.
And those google searches seems to be about old xfree version.

What WM are you using? Some of them like KDE have a helper app or some settings to change the keyboard's language.

Re: Xorg and 2.6.12 keyboard problem

Using WindowMaker, but I found the error. I had run out of diskspace on my root partition. Cleaning of /var/cache/pacman/pkg free'd up 1.3GB so everything is OK now.

Thanks for all your help.
